Hand washing

Procedure

Washing your hands to remove germs is an important step in preventing infection. Dirty hands are one of the most common ways to spread infection. Remember: Always wash your hands before handling equipment or doing any procedures.

1. Remove your rings before washing hands. Germs can hide in and around these items.

4. Rinse your hands.

2. Turn on the water and leave it running. Apply antibacterial soap to your hands and scrub vigorously. Start at your finger-tips, scrubbing under finger nails and between each finger.

5. Thoroughly dry your hands with a paper towel.

3. Scrub your inner palms and back of hands last.

6. Use a paper towel to turn off the water, then discard it in the trash.
